Hidden-Layer Models.

A learning research programme asking how motion, boundaries, fields and retained structure can be distinguished through evidence.

Research architecture by Aboudy Keddeh. S22 connects physical-model questions with an inspectable BRAINK/KEX learning method: preserve the observation, compare explanations, test what would change the conclusion.

ABSTRACT & CONTEXT

What persists after motion changes?

S22 investigates whether apparent structure is explained by a wake, an evolving boundary, field geometry, plasma behaviour, retention, or a proposed mirror-like layer. The research task is to turn these interpretations into distinct predictions at stated places, times and scales.

The KEX–BRAINK research corpus explores a sequence from motion and pressure through separation, retention or stripping, and persistent residue. S22 uses that architecture to organise questions. An analogy between physical persistence and retained computational state can guide a study; a shared vocabulary alone does not establish a shared physical mechanism.

The central question: does a proposed component explain a repeatable signature beyond known components, coordinate effects, instrument behaviour and model error when every candidate receives the same data treatment?

“Hidden layer” is a research label for a proposed latent component. Each study must give it an operational definition: what is inferred, which observable it affects, and what result would count against it. An unexplained residual is a reason to investigate, not a detection.

DISTINCT HYPOTHESES

Six questions. Different ways to test them.

The questions below are proposed study designs, not reported discoveries. Their variables, scale and decision thresholds must be fixed for the chosen dataset before results are interpreted.

Wake

Does structure follow a trajectory?

Test whether a downstream pattern has a repeatable geometry, delay and decay relative to a moving source or flow.

Compare: an advected disturbance, background gradients and sampling along a changing trajectory. Vary the alignment and use control intervals.

Discriminator: a predicted spatial and temporal pattern that persists in held-out intervals and cannot be reproduced by the baseline. A pattern that disappears after alignment correction weakens the wake interpretation.

Boundary

Is a transition a physical interface?

Map candidate changes in field, density, temperature, velocity or pressure with their location and uncertainty.

Compare: a sharp interface, a continuous gradient, temporal variability and an instrument change. Separate a moving boundary from a spacecraft crossing.

Discriminator: coordinated transitions in independently measured quantities at compatible times. Sensitivity to one arbitrary threshold must remain visible.

Field

Does field geometry predict the pattern?

Preserve vector direction, magnitude and reference frame. Ask whether a declared field model predicts orientation or coupling beyond a scalar correlation.

Compare: alternative field configurations, frame transformations and calibration uncertainty.

Discriminator: an orientation-dependent signature predicted before fitting the evaluation interval. A coordinate-dependent effect that vanishes in a consistent frame weakens the proposed mechanism.

Plasma

Can measured plasma behaviour explain it?

Relate density, temperature, velocity, shear and pressure using an explicit physical model with units and a declared regime of applicability.

Compare: plausible plasma models and their resolution limits before introducing an additional latent component.

Discriminator: predictions across several observables, rather than a fit to one trace. If a baseline plasma explanation accounts for the structure within uncertainty, additional complexity needs new evidence.

Retention

Does a state retain a measurable history?

Test how long a structure or response remains after its driving condition changes. Define the retained quantity and its expected relaxation time.

Compare: continuing input, transport delay, ordinary relaxation and data-processing memory. Keep physical retention distinct from an archive retaining records.

Discriminator: a predicted persistence or hysteresis curve under changing conditions. Failure under realistic density or coupling assumptions would weaken this branch.

Mirror-layer

What would a mirror-like relation predict?

First define “mirror”: a geometric correspondence, a field relation, or another explicit transformation. The supplied sector contract names this hypothesis family without fixing one calibrated physical model.

Compare: ordinary symmetry, projection, shared forcing and processing artifacts. Specify which observable should be paired, reversed or delayed before searching for a match.

Discriminator: a preregistered relation that succeeds on independent observations and fails under appropriate controls. Visual resemblance alone is insufficient.

METHODS & ACCEPTANCE

Make each explanation answerable.

Source-bound spacecraft, astronomical or simulation data can support a study when its origin, measurement map and limitations are retained. A simulation tests behaviour under its assumptions; an observational study tests predictions against measurements. Their evidential roles stay separate.

  1. Define the component

Name measurable variables or explicitly labelled latent terms. State units, equations, geometry, parameter bounds and the physical meaning of each proposed relationship.

  2. Build the alternatives

Include null and competing models in the parameter sweep. Use identical filtering, fit windows and evaluation metrics; account for extra model flexibility.

  3. Align space and time

Declare the coordinate frame, trajectory, time convention, cadence and resolution. Record interpolation, missing data and any filtering that changes timing or shape.

  4. Carry uncertainty

Propagate measurement and calibration uncertainty. Examine sensitivity to model assumptions and analysis choices. Report where available resolution cannot distinguish candidates.

  5. Test a distinguishing signature

Commit to a spatial, spectral, temporal, dynamical or statistical prediction. Evaluate held-out intervals or independent measurements where possible, with explicit failure conditions.

  6. Return a reviewable result

Preserve the baseline, fitted and residual results together. State the tested scope, what passed, what failed and which observation would most change the decision.

RESEARCH OUTPUTS

Evidence that another study can use.

Boundary map

Candidate interfaces with geometry, time, resolution, source references and uncertainty. Distinguish measured transitions from model-derived surfaces.

Field ledger

Field observations and model states with direction, magnitude, units, coordinate frame, calibration and provenance.

Residual analysis

Observed-minus-predicted structure for the null and alternatives, including sensitivity, failures and unresolved differences.

Decision receipt

A bounded account of the claim, artifacts, method, comparison, uncertainty, reviewer or verifier and next valid research step.

Wake models, latent-component tests and visualisations can accompany these four contract outputs. Their presence does not replace the underlying measurements or the acceptance criteria.

LEARNING & ARCHITECTURE

A correction should improve the next question.

The declared S22 workflow is ANCHOR → FACTOR → TRANSLATE → ACT → VALIDATE → TOKENIZE → PRESERVE → RETURN. In research terms: establish the question and sources, break down its assumptions, define the model, run the bounded study, check the result, record the change, retain the evidence and return a conclusion with its next test.

BRAINK/KEX provides the proposed learning architecture. Source-to-claim links, failed comparisons and correction history remain available for the next study. The research-intake tooling organises artifacts and routes learning tasks; indexing a source or routing a task does not validate its scientific content.

How the bounded learning rule is intended to work

The source contract scores six dimensions: anchor, factor, translation, action, validation and continuity. It declares a mean threshold of 49/60, exact anchor, validation and continuity gates, and complete required-output coverage. The candidate preserves exact per-axis arithmetic and clips simulated bias updates to ±3/20.

These are internal workflow conditions. They do not assign a probability that a physical hypothesis is true. The contract’s learning symbol needs a settled per-axis-versus-aggregate definition before production use; the inspected implementation uses the per-axis score. Production learning remains disabled in the reviewed hardening candidate.

Where S02, S14, S18 and S21 connect

S22 declares S02, S14, S18 and S21 as dependencies. Their precise sector definitions, versioned interfaces and validated contributions are not established by the reviewed S22 materials, so this brief does not assign them invented roles.

A useful integration record will identify the question each dependency answers, its input and output contract, source version, uncertainty and acceptance test. Until that mapping is verified, these IDs express declared research connections rather than demonstrated interoperability.

RESULTS & EVIDENCE STATUS

Two evidence tracks, kept explicit.

Software hardening evidence

29 tests. 1,500 arithmetic cases.

The local hardening review records 29 passing unit tests on the candidate and 1,500 independently checked synthetic arithmetic cases. The checks cover exact arithmetic, bounds, simulation eligibility and unchanged production biases; targeted regressions address numeric parsing and precision boundaries.

This supports specific claims about candidate code under tested inputs. It does not establish source-seed lineage, end-to-end deployment, security certification or scientific validation.

Scientific validation

A programme ready for discriminating studies.

The supplied research corpus describes proxy-supported, incompletely calibrated model branches and explicitly distinguishes coherence from physical validation. No completed S22 observational validation package is established by the reviewed materials.

The next evidence comes from a defined dataset, calibrated variables, competing predictions and independent evaluation. Passing code tests cannot fill this role.

DISCUSSION & NEXT STUDIES

Start with one question that can change our mind.

  1. Select a bounded observation. Choose a documented event, interval or simulation case with useful coverage. Preserve the original data, quality flags, units, frame and time map.
  2. Freeze a comparison. Define one hypothesis, a null and a plausible alternative. Register the expected signature, uncertainty treatment and failure condition before interpreting the evaluation data.
  3. Produce the four research outputs. Keep the boundary map, field ledger, residual analysis and decision receipt consistent with the actual artifacts. Report inconclusive cases alongside positive or negative results.
  4. Connect the learning route. Reconcile the source profile, seed lineage and dependency interfaces; define a trusted evidence-verification route before any real result can update production learning.

The strongest next step is a small reproducible study whose result can support, weaken or leave unresolved a clearly stated claim. Each outcome contributes to learning when its evidence and limits remain inspectable.
