1. Abstract and purpose

BRAINK is the persistent execution and continuity substrate in the architecture reviewed here. Its technical problem is to keep a requested transition, the source that defines it, the authority to perform it, its observed effect and the resulting evidence distinguishable through normal execution and failure. This edition develops the S01 baseline into a usable assessment protocol without presenting proposed record fields as an implemented API.

The central boundary is that a successful display is insufficient evidence of a successful, durably recorded effect. Recovery must establish what happened before deciding whether to retry. The inherited v74 report describes local copy, recovery and rehydration tests; the proposed comparative S01 experiment has not been run. This reference supports review and experiment preparation, not an installation claim or production qualification.

Source coverage for this edition

The primary E2 text was fetched again from its exact Drive reference and matches the registered 18,996-byte SHA-256 identity. The v74 report is included as v74-report-original.html, a fresh source retrieval, rather than the earlier readable extraction. Its embedded reported evidence was inspected as data. No v74 runtime harness was rerun.

2. Scope, definitions and related papers

S01 remains an independent research sector. KEX supplies typed evolution; BRAINK retains governed execution and continuity; IL-LLM supplies recurrent traversal and semantic processing. Storage, service runtime, security, governance and mesh coordination retain their own proof obligations. [K-KEX; K-LINE]

An intent identifies a requested transition independently of execution attempts. An attempt is one admission/execution cycle. An authority decision identifies a principal, permitted action, target, policy version and validity interval. An effect is a change in the addressed target; an observation is measured readback of that target. A receipt binds these objects to source identity, preconditions and outcome. A checkpoint is a versioned recovery object with a declared durability domain.

Logical state, UI projection, event ledger and external target state must remain distinct. A digest identifies bytes, not semantic correctness. “Durable” means survival of a named failure within a named storage environment, not indefinite retention. Monotonic elapsed time is required for recovery-duration measurement; a timestamp is not itself a duration.

The source baseline uses historical numeral 1 in its ZCG discussion. The current author direction designates the shared origin literally as the nonnumeric string .1. This edition uses that current interpretation while preserving the historical source unchanged. Host array indices, numeric measurements, external basis labels and native address syntax are separately typed. No native coordinate encoder is supplied here. [K-CURRENT; K-CORR]

Observation must retain the observed, observer and observable roles, together with spatial, temporal and instance context. An absent projection does not establish nonexistence. The complete observer expression Or=T(S,Mo,F,H,R) retains source state, observer motion, foreground filtering, environmental translation and recursive residue-memory. BRAINK continuity is a possible engineering carrier for retained context; this does not prove mathematical equivalence between runtime and observation model. [K-WP05; K-KRS]

3. Architecture and lifecycle contract

3.1 Native sequence and proposed assessment phases

The source v74 sequence is retained in full:

INTENT → SOURCE_IDENTITY → OBJECTIVE_BINDING → MATERIAL_BOUNDARY → AUTHORITY_GATE → CURRENT_STATE_READBACK → BILATERAL_GROWTH → EXECUTION_MODE → EXECUTION → OBSERVATION → FALSIFICATION → READBACK → RECONCILIATION → EVIDENCE_PACKET → LEDGER_DELTA → NEXT_ROUTE.

Proposed assessment contract C1 groups this sequence into RECEIVED, ADMITTED, EXECUTING, OBSERVED and RECORDED. These are assessment states, not a claim that an inspected class exposes those exact fields. Source mapping must relate each assessment transition to concrete native stages without dropping stages.

Proposed inputs are intent ID, attempt ID, source identity, typed input, expected-state version and authority reference. Proposed outputs include phase, observation reference, receipt reference and typed outcome. Admission requires resolvable source, valid input, valid authority and expected state version. Rejection must record a reason and cause no target mutation. Authority must remain valid at the final enforceable actuation boundary; revocation of in-flight work needs an explicit target contract.

REJECTED terminates failed admission. UNCERTAIN means the effect may have happened but conclusive observation is unavailable. DEGRADED means a required durability facility is unavailable. RECORDED is permitted only after required observation and durable receipt both succeed. The durability domain must be declared before a test can judge that claim.

3.2 Recovery and replay

C2 recovery begins by inspecting the target with retained intent identity. An established effect is reconciled and recorded without repetition. Established absence permits a new attempt only after fresh authority and precondition checks. An inconclusive result stays UNCERTAIN; blind mutation retry is disallowed. An external effect and a local log do not automatically form an atomic transaction. Exactly-once claims require target-specific idempotency or reconciliation.

C3 replay reconstructs logical state from a frozen deterministic transition function, an initial state and an ordered admitted event sequence. Replay is read-only unless actuation is separately authorized. Serialization, schemas and treatment of randomness and time must be frozen. State comparison uses the declared logical representation, never a UI success label. Event sourcing is a comparison pattern, not an asserted identity with BRAINK.

3.3 Invariants

Each invariant needs an explicit negative fixture. A broad “runtime works” check cannot discharge six independent obligations.

4. Setup and reproduction method

The primary source is braink_editorial.txt; v74-report-original.html provides the retrieved source report. These are documents and source-reported evidence, not an installable BRAINK distribution. No supported runtime package-manager command, callable native API or full v74 harness was recovered in this reference group. A new constructor or CLI must not be invented.

The supported package check is python verify_sources.py, run in this edition's folder after the listed source files are present. It compares each file's byte count and SHA-256 with original_hashes.json. Successful custody verification does not reproduce runtime behavior.

To reproduce the proposed S01 comparison, an implementation owner must supply the source-mapped candidate, independent reference and inert effect adapter. Freeze candidate digest, baseline commit, schema/canonicalization, initial state, traces, fault schedule, seeds, OS, CPU/memory, interpreter/browser, storage policy and exact commands. The reference must not reuse the candidate's unchecked transition function as its correctness oracle.

Proposed workloads are a pure typed update, stale-version rejection, identical duplicate intent, conflicting reuse of intent ID, checkpoint restore and an effect that succeeds before acknowledgement is lost. The protocol proposes 10, 100 and 1,000 admitted operations and 30 independently seeded traces per workload/size/fault combination. These are future settings, not observed counts or a power calculation.

Inject failures before admission, immediately before actuation, after effect but before observation, after observation but before receipt persistence, and during checkpoint write or restore. Include storage denial, corrupt JSON, invalid checkpoints, authority revocation, duplicate delivery and interrupted restart. Keep evidence that the injection occurred.

Acceptance is zero observed I1–I6 violations in the frozen corpus, with every run accounted for. UNCERTAIN can be correct for an unreconcilable adapter. Report replay divergence over eligible replays, duplicate effects over admitted unique intents, and complete receipts over required receipt records. Recovery latency begins at the declared trigger and ends at reconciliation or timeout. Keep failed and censored runs visible.

5. Results and evidence standing

The v74 source registry reports S01 as PACKAGE BUILT, COMPILE/REPLAY PASS, CORRECTION ROUTE PASS and EVOLUTION PASS. These are inherited statuses.

The inspected report records 250 byte-identical static copies, 300 deterministic fault/recovery cycles and 200 rehydrations. Its summary reports monotonic logical time, valid evidence references, first-event retention and 312 final ledger events. Reported rehydration median is 6.641 ms and maximum 13.022 ms in its VM harness. These were read from the report, not re-executed for this edition.

Reported negative paths include STORAGE_INVALID_JSON for corrupt storage, CHECKPOINT_REJECTED for invalid checkpoints, and WRITE_FAILED with qualification refused for denied storage. Local A-to-B stale-primary failover and fault/recovery election are reported. They do not establish multi-machine partition tolerance.

Reported growth of 34,505 bytes over 5,103,217 parent bytes is approximately 0.676%. It measures carrier size growth, not runtime latency overhead. Full external static/VM traces, raw timing samples, exact machine context and a separately reproduced S01 comparison are not established by the retained report.

E-PRESERVE and E-REVIEW describe bounded observation-record preservation in another runtime. Their 131 and 714 checks must not be added to v74 counts as one qualification experiment.

6. Limitations and next decisions

The ambiguous-outcome window is a counterexample to a blanket success/retry rule: an effect can occur before its acknowledgement is lost. Retrying can duplicate it; declaring failure can misdescribe the target. C2 requires reconciliation or visible uncertainty.

The first open decision is whether C1–C3 map faithfully to native objects. Until reviewed, these contracts remain proposals. Next come the target-specific effect adapter, revocation boundary, storage durability/eviction rules and complete frozen harness. Multi-machine recovery, public ingress, DNS/TLS authority, qualified cryptography and physical actuation require separate studies.

Native algebra evaluation is separate. The author requires retained participating identities, relations and transformation history; a balanced projection must not erase constituents. Conventional arithmetic, zero-based host indices and transported algebra comparisons are not native conformance. No complete two-/three-body quadratic operator is introduced by this protocol.
