BRAINK APPLICATION BRIEF Factory & energy operations
Hardware + software + people
Keep the observation with the work.
An illustrative BRAINK application for maintenance teams who need equipment observations, an authorised work order and a traceable handover in one working context.
A maintenance team receives an abnormal reading or an equipment report. They need to understand where it came from, which work order owns the response and what the next shift should know. The proposed application ties compatible monitoring points to a bounded maintenance workflow.
Operator
Reviews the current reported condition and raises an observation against the correct asset.
Maintenance engineer
Uses local-first guidance and records checks against an authorised work order.
Operations / energy analyst
Reviews retained observations and context before interpreting trends or planning follow-up.
One context. Distinct working capabilities.
Proposed application composition, with explicit handoffs between the functions that perform the work.
Compatible field modulesDeclared sensor or status profiles provide measured observations and explicit fault states.
Separate service runtimesEquipment, file and guidance agents have distinct captured runtimes, state and capabilities.
Role-specific workspacesOperators, engineers and analysts inspect the same identified work through appropriate views.
Network ToT: identified relationships and requested behaviour. Memory ToT: retained observations and actual readback. Authorised handoff: task identity → admitted function → observed result → independent readback.
The modular BRAINK design combines a fixed CAT6/Ethernet side with allocated equipment connector squares. Electrical compatibility depends on each module’s driver, sensing capability and qualified device profile.

From the person to the recorded result
A useful working path
Select a bounded monitoring pointChoose a non-safety-critical status signal or a supported sensor profile and document its electrical envelope.
Establish the work contextBind the observation to the asset, port, source revision and authorised work order. Retain units, timestamp and uncertainty.
Guide the inspectionA local-first guidance agent helps the engineer interpret the available context and prepare checks. Equipment and file operations require separate authorised runtimes.
Retain the resultRecord the actual observed response and the engineer’s finding. Preserve unknown or stale data rather than converting it into a healthy state.
Review the shift handoverReopen the retained work record and decide the next maintenance action. Any energy comparison uses measured data and an agreed baseline.
How the parts combine
Network ToT describes the proposed relationships between identified ports and tasks. Memory ToT retains observations. ServerSpace supplies the execution/coordination role and StoreSpace the retained-source/build role, with an application-specific historian or maintenance-record integration defined separately.
Shape a practical first integration
Name the monitored asset, supported signal profile, electrical isolation and fault envelope.
Specify permissions, timestamp quality, units, calibration requirements and missing-data treatment.
Verify distinct guidance, equipment and file runtime capabilities through an observed authorised handoff.
Compare reopened records with source observations; test restart and lost-link recovery before expanding scope.
The hardware remains an owner-designed modular architecture. Learning must not silently expand a runtime’s role, state scope, tools or authority. A scope change requires a separate authorised transition and renewed verification. No board rating, arbitrary-device discovery guarantee, ready-to-install package or customer deployment is asserted here. Exact module, firmware, host and application revisions must be agreed and tested.
Start with one real workflow.
Bring one asset, one monitoring question and the maintenance decision it should inform.
