Observer-Anchored Measurement Algebra
A formal separation of source, frame, foreground, environment, and retained residue
Abstract
This paper develops the observer principle found across the KEX master and monograph into a forward-model discipline. It distinguishes the source state from observer motion, foreground, environment, retained residue, instrument, unit, and uncertainty. A matrix-rank example proves that one blended view is underdetermined while independent transforms can recover identifiability. The result applies to sensors, simulations, genomics, and cosmology without asserting that observation creates physical reality.
1. Problem and scope
The observer is an indexed measurement context, not a mystical scalar. Its record contains frame, position or motion where relevant, instrument response, calibration, and decoding rules.
Foreground and environment are not error bins. They are modeled terms with priors or measured controls. Residue is a state variable only after its update law and units are defined.
The model preserves an untransformed source identifier even when the source value is inferred rather than directly observed.
2. Formal model
O_r=T(S,M_o,F,H,R)    (1)
y_o=M_o s+F_o f+ε_o    (2)
rank([I I])=n<2n;   rank([[I,I],[I,2I]])=2n    (3)
All symbols in these equations are local to this paper unless explicitly imported from Series Paper 01. A compatibility numeral such as zero may appear in ranks, matrices, encodings, distances, statistics, or projected outputs without becoming an untyped KEX active state.
3. Results and claim register
4. Architecture or state mapping
5. Application and cross-domain translation
A virtual camera, DNA sequencer, network probe, and astronomical instrument all produce observer-conditioned records, but their domain equations and noise models are different. KEX supplies the shared record contract.
The central experimental question is identifiability: do the collected observations contain enough independent information to estimate the separated terms within declared uncertainty?
Cross-domain reuse is accepted only as a structure-preserving mapping. Similar words or diagrams are insufficient: the mapping must preserve identity, allowed transitions, observer/environment terms where relevant, and the authoritative proof boundary.
6. Experimental programme
7. Falsifiers and failure conditions
•	If terms are not identifiable, they must not be promoted as independently measured.
•	If a residue term absorbs known foreground, the residue claim fails.
•	If predictions change only when coordinate labels change, the physical mapping fails.
8. Conclusion
Observer anchoring is a rigorous metadata and forward-model requirement. It becomes new science only when a specified translation model predicts independent measurements better than a fair baseline.
